Cholesterol

Eggs and Cholesterol

Does it really Matter?

I don’t know about you guys but I love love Eggs Benedict.  But for 50 years or so we were educated to avoid cholesterol rich foods because eating too much cholesterol causes heart disease and heart attacks.  It turns out we may have all been duped!

Our bodies make cholesterol. If we eat it our bodies make less, if we don’t our bodies make more.  How much cholesterol we eat does not impact our blood cholesterol levels for most people.  It can have an effect on a small percentage of people where it does raise the level of blood cholesterol; but their is little evidence to suggest that this raises these peoples risk of heart disease and heart attack.

Continuing to advise the restriction of cholesterol consumption is now outdated; funny how often long held “global truths” can eventually turn out to be wrong.
